FACILITY

The CAPE facility is located in Westfield, Indiana, just minutes north of Indianapolis. CAPE is housed in three climate-controlled buildings, two of which are connected by an 800-foot long track. The main CAPE crash hall houses the calibration lab, two of the three crash sleds and the barrier. The other buildings house the third crash sled, the rollover machine, quasi-static, impact, airbag, pyrotechnic and vibration test centers. The outside track is suitable for vehicle-to-vehicle testing.

BARRIER BLOCK

With the help of multiple fixtures and adapters, barrier crash tests can be set up to simulate full frontal, oblique, offset, side and vehicle-to-vehicle impacts. The barrier face is 28 feet by 14 feet, with a mass of over 1.5 million pounds, allowing CAPE technicians to conduct the highest energy tests of the largest vehicles, weighing up to 80,000 pounds. A 24' by 9' film pit allows under vehicle video coverage of large vehicles.

STAFF

In addition to providing engineering and technical personnel to support your project needs, CAPE is unique in its employment of applied mechanics engineers who can provide engineering modeling and analysis support to a wide range of vehicle and component projects. This engineering simulation team uses advanced software tools for structural analysis, vehicle dynamics, crashworthiness analysis and occupant simulations.
