Drop Tower Testing Up to 600 lbs.

CAPE is home to an enhanced drop tower capable of handling test loads of up to 600 pounds dropped from a height of 20 feet. The tower can also conduct a variety of smaller component and helmet tests.

Researchers seeking ways to mitigate the energy of an IED blast can use CAPE’s drop tower to reproduce impact scenarios up to 350 g and speeds up to 20 mph using a seated test dummy.

Real-World Impact Simulation

Mine blast simulation is not the only application for CAPE’s expanded drop tower. CAPE can also recreate other customer-specific impact scenarios. For example, the drop tower can be used to evaluate the effects of vertical impact forces during a vehicle rollover using a specialized fixture rather than dropping an entire vehicle.
